UAB MBB Hosts Mississippi College in Exhibition on Tuesday Night

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's basketball team is set to kick off the 2022-23 season against Mississippi College in an exhibition contest. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. in Bartow Arena.
David Crane (pxp) and Mo Finley (analyst) will be on the call for Blazers Sports Network on 100.5 FM JOX 2. There will not be a video stream for the exhibition.
Head Coach Andy Kennedy is looking to get his Alma Mater to the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons for the first time since UAB reached the Big Dance in 2004, 2005, and 2006. The 2021-22 squad won a program-record 27 games and captured the fifth Conference USA title in UAB history.
The Blazers were picked to finish first in C-USA by the league's coaches, taking nine of the 11 first-place votes. Reigning C-USA Player of the Year Jordan Walker was recognized as the Preseason Player of the Year and transfer guard Eric Gaines was named to the All-Conference team.
UAB welcomed a plethora of high-profile transfers to the roster for the 2022-23 season. Gaines joins the Blazers from LSU, where he averaged 9.0 points and 2.1 steals per game. His 70 steals were tied for 12th nationally in 2021-22. The Blazers are also joined by brothers Ty Brewer and Ledarrius Brewer from East Tennessee State. The duo each averaged double figures scoring and over five rebounds per game. Mississippi State transfer Javian Davis will add depth for the Blazers inside while Binghamton transfer Tyler Bertram adds another three-point threat to the backcourt.
SCOUTING MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE
The Choctaws finished the 2021-22 season with a 7-19 record in their first season under head coach Randy Bolden. Mississippi College returns their leading scorer, Tradavis Thompson, who averaged 14.5 points per game last season over 14 games. Lipscomb transfer Miles Miller is also back for the Choctaws after averaging 9.2 points and 4.3 assists per game.
