BIRMINGHAM - UAB men's basketball head coach Andy Kennedy has announced the addition of transfer center Matt Mbole from South Georgia Tech.
Really excited to have Matt join our program, Kennedy said. At 6'11 and 280 pounds, Matt brings a real presence to our frontcourt. Having just started basketball about four years ago, his growth in the game has been extraordinary and we know the best is yet to come. Matt was one of the leading rebounders and shot blockers in all of Junior College basketball last season which will put him in the position to make an immediate impact for the Blazers next season.
Mbole, a 6-foot-11 guard from Yaounde, Cameroon, spent the past season at Junior College South Georgia Tech, appearing in 30 games. He averaged 10.0 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per contest while collecting a double-double in 14 games. The big man earned GCAA First-Team All-Conference and All-Defensive Team selections with those numbers. He recorded a career-high 19 points twice and also collected 19 rebounds three separate times. Mbole recorded five or more blocks five times at South Georgia Tech. As a freshman, Mbole played in 26 games scoring 77 points and shot 71.4% from the field.
Prior to JUCO, Mbole started basketball in Cameroon just four years ago at prep school Establis, Enseigne Design.
He becomes the ninth addition to the UAB men's basketball 2026 signing class, joining high school prospects Jakobi Sharp and Korie Corbett, junior college transfers Tim Holliday and Shah Hall, and Division I transfers Jeremy Elyzee, Deuce Jones, Justyn Fernandez, and TJ Caldwell.
