BIRMINGHAM - UAB men's basketball head coach Andy Kennedy has announced the addition of Maryland transfer Aleks Alston.
"Proud to welcome Aleks to the Blazer Basketball family," Kennedy said. "Aleks is a 6'10 forward with playmaking and three-point shooting abilities that will add size and versatility to our frontcourt. He was the top-rated player in Illinois his senior season in high school and the experience he garnered as a freshman in the Big 10 will put him in the position to make an immediate impact at UAB".
Alston, a 6-foot-10 forward from Chicago, Illinois., spent the past season at Maryland, appearing in 25 games. He averaged 8.6 minutes per game scoring 34 points and totaling 42 rebounds.
A stretch wing who had a standout career at Kenwood Academy, was a four-star recruit out of high school, was the No. 1 player from the state of Illinois, and the No. 22 power forward nationally. He also held offers from N.C. State, UNLV, Oregon, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Arizona State, California, and Georgia. He was ranked in the Sports Center Next 100 recruits at No. 78 in 2025 and was ranked the 10th best power forward this year out of the portal. As a senior at Kenwood, he averaged nearly a double-double with 17 points and 9.8 rebounds while shooting 57 percent from the floor.
He becomes the 10th addition to the UAB men's basketball 2026 signing class, joining high school prospects Jakobi Sharp and Korie Corbett, junior college transfers Tim Holliday, Shah Hall, and Matt Mbole and Division I transfers Jeremy Elyzee, Deuce Jones, Justyn Fernandez, and TJ Caldwell.
