BIRMINGHAM – Conference USA Preseason Player of the Year Jordan Walker picked up right where he left off and drained a deep three-pointer on the first possession of the game and the Blazers did not look back. The Blazers ran out to a 98-47 win over Mississippi College with 14 different scorers.

UAB jumped out to a quick 16-2 lead over the first eight minutes of the game and maintained a healthy margin throughout. Ledarrius Brewer was eager to contribute in his first contest as a Blazer. The super-senior scored 12 of his 14 points in the first half, including a pair of three-pointers.

In the second half, Ty Brewer led the way, scoring all 11 of his points and grabbing five rebounds in just over 11 minutes. UAB led by as many as 52 points down the stretch.

The highlight of the night was provided by Eric Gaines. Following a timeout, Gaines retreated towards midcourt to retrieve the inbounds pass. He quickly turned the corner, opening a lane towards the basket and he threw down a monstrous dunk. However, he was not done there. Moments later on the defensive end, he spiked a Mississippi College shot into the crowd while seemingly floating in mid-air.

NOTES

Five different Blazers reached double-figures on the night.
52 of the Blazers' 98 points were scored in the paint.
Efrem Johnson scored seven points in his first action as a Blazer.
Ty Brewer filled up the stat sheet with 11 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.
Trey Jemison scored 11 points and grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.
