Walker’s 38 Points Lead UAB to 111-70 Win Over Alabama State

BIRMINGHAM – UAB Men's Basketball (1-0) scored its most points in a season opener in program history in a 111-70 win over Alabama State (0-1). Jordan Walker led all scorers with 38 points, the third-highest total of his career.
The victory marks Andy Kennedy's 50th as UAB's head coach. He is the fastest to reach the mark in program history.
The Blazers jumped ahead 15-5, but the Hornets answered right back, going on a 9-0 run to cut the UAB lead to just one point. Ledarrius Brewer was effective from three in the first half, hitting all four of his attempts from distance.
The Blazers extended the lead from there, mixing in a 13-0 run over a four-minute stretch midway through the first half. UAB held a 53-34 advantage at the half after Walker scored seven points over the last 1:12 of the period.
Jordan Walker took over the game early in the second half. He scored 13 points over the first five minutes of the half to help the Blazers extend the lead to 24.
The senior finished the night with 38 points in only 28 minutes of action.

- Andy Kennedy picks up his 50th win at UAB. He is the fastest coach to reach that mark in program history.
- Jordan Walker notched his fourth-career game with over 30 points.
- Jelly finished 11-for-11 from the free throw line, marking the third time in his career he has shot 100% from the charity stripe with at least 11 attempts. A UAB player has been perfect from the line with at least 11 attempts in a game 10 times. Walker (3) and Andy Kennedy (2) are the only players to have accomplished the feat more than once.
- Despite playing only 13 minutes in the second half, Walker scored 25 points in the period.
- Walker's 38 points are the most by a Blazer in a season-opener.
- Trey Jemison finished with 13 points on an efficient 6-for-7 effort from the field.
