UAB Softball Prepares for AAC Softball Tournament Run

WICHITA – UAB Softball gears up for the 2024 AAC Softball Tournament in Wichita, Kansas. The Blazers finished the season with a 23-28 record and a 14-13 record in the conference. UAB's Hannah Dorsett and Bella Wiggins received All-Conference honors leading into the tournament week, coming off a series win over ECU.
The Blazers enter the postseason revisiting the Pirates for the first round of the tournament. "Hopefully we'll be playing our best softball and we believe our best game is still to come. We're going into this tournament with a 'why not us?' mentality." said coach AJ Daugherty. "We know who we are and we know who our opponents are. At this point it comes down to executing our game and believing that when we do, we'll put ourselves in a position to win every time."

SCOUTING THE PIRATES
The Blazers come off a full weekend of taking on the Pirates in the final conference series of the weekend. After dropping the first game 3-1, the Blazers responded with back-to-back victories to clinch the series over ECU. The Green and Gold held the Pirates to scoring two runs in the second and third game of the series and outhitting ECU in each game.
The No. 6 Blazers will take on the No. 7 Pirates for the fourth time this season and 47th time overall. The Pirates bat .306 and hold opponents to an average of .239. In last week's series, ECU held the Green and Gold to a .259 batting average over the weekend. However, UAB churned out two doubles and a triple against an ECU squad ranked fourth in ERA.
In the circle, All-Rookie Team member Taylor Apple struck out three Blazers and collected a win in the first game. Emma Jackson, another All-Conference honoree, who is ranked second behind the AAC Player of the Year, went 3-7 over the weekend versus the Green and Gold.
