Shirah, Dorsett Earn All-Conference Second Team Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB Softball earned a pair of American Conference postseason honors with Ashlyn Shirah and Hannah Dorsett being named to the All-Conference Second Team, as announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon. Shirah and Dorsett each took home their first career all-conference team awards and the first for UAB Softball since 2024.
Shirah led all qualified UAB hitters with a .384 batting average in conference play. Shirah's average was the fifth-best overall in the conference. Shirah hit eight home runs in conference play, driving in 27 total runs, good for the fifth and fourth-best marks in the conference.
Shirah slugged .721 in American games, with five doubles to go with her eight home runs. The Slidell, La. Native walked 10 times and was hit by a pitch once, bringing her on-base percentage up to .454 in her 27 conference games. Shirah led the Blazers in hits, doubles, home runs, RBI, total bases, runs scored, batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, and stolen bases.
Dorsett finished second among Blazer hitters with 27 hits in 87 at-bats for a .310 batting average in conference play. Dorsett drove in four runs and scored six herself in 27 American games. Dorsett boasted a .333 on-base percentage in conference play and led the Blazers with seven sacrifice bunts, playing a key role in UAB's offensive system.
The award is Dorsett's second American post-season honor. She was named to the All-Rookie team as a freshman in 2024.
Shirah, Dorsett, and the Blazers open the American Championships at 9 a.m. CT on Wednesday, May 6, taking on eighth-seeded Tulsa.
