BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB Softball Senior Ashlyn Shirah was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's Third Team for the Gulf Region.
Shirah led UAB in 10 offensive categories, including: batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, hits, runs scored, doubles, home runs, RBI, total bases, and stolen bases. The Slidell, La. native hit .355 in 2026 with 60 hits. Her 46 RBI were the third most ever by a UAB player in a single season, greatly helped by her two-grand slam weekend at Florida Atlantic to close out the regular season. Shirah's 10 home runs were tied for the 10th most ever in a UAB season.
Legging out seven doubles to go with her double-digit homers, Shirah totaled 97 bases for a .574 slugging percentage. With 15 walks and a three hit-by-pitches, Shirah finished the season with a .415 on-base percentage.
Her .342 batting average across two seasons as a Blazers places her fourth all-time in UAB history. After transferring to UAB from Northwest Florida State, Shirah finished her Blazer career with 78 hits, 12 home runs, 56 RBI, and a .539 slugging percentage.
Shirah was named to the American Conference Second Team with her teammate, Hannah Dorsett, last week.
