The game opened up with a leadoff double from the Pirates to put a runner on second base before the next batter was struck out. With one out on the board, the Pirates tallied another out but advanced their runner to third, threatening a run. Leigha Kirby halted the momentum with a second strikeout in the inning.
UAB responded with a single through the right side to start the bottom of the first, courtesy of Auburn Dupree. The Green and Gold went on to ground out before Dupree was caught stealing at second by the shortstop. Bella Wiggins followed up with a strikeout swinging. East Carolina gained another hit in the second, followed by a fielder's choice to keep one runner on, but went scoreless.
Through two innings, both teams went three up and three down before the Blazers were able to draw a two-out single to center field from Wiggins. With one runner on base, Lindsey Smith followed to bat, but hit a flyout to center, closing the inning without a run for either team. ECU went three up, three down in the top of the fifth before the Blazers went on to enter the bottom half with a double to right center. Despite this, the Blazers left one stranded.
With another scoreless inning in the fifth, the sixth was all ECU. The Pirates tallied four hits, with three singles before scoring the first run. A 2RBI single sent two more runs on the board before the inning closed out with an out, catching a runner stealing at third.
