UAB Women’s Tennis Defeats Belmont, Falls to No. 9 Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. – The UAB women's tennis team spent the weekend in Auburn to face Belmont and the No. 9 ranked Tigers at Yarbrough Tennis Center.
On Saturday, the Blazers were 5-2 winners over the Bruins. UAB got on the board with the doubles point after Adela Wasserbauerova and Mackenzie White along with Enya Ratkic and Vanessa Mellynchuk were winners on Courts 2 and 3.
Wasserbauerova put the Blazes up 2-0 after a 6-1, 7-5 win on Court 2. Mackenzie White's 6-1, 7-5 win on Court 4 put UAB in the driver's seat at 3-0 and Annalisa Smith clinched the match on Court 5 with a 6-3, 6-2 win.
On Sunday, the Blazers face No. 9 Auburn. The Tigers had the No.8 doubles team in the country along with the three nationally ranked singles players. Although Auburn won all but one singles set, UAB battled with them the whole way.
Maggie White faced the No. 67 ranked player on Court 1, falling 6-3, 6-4. Wasserbauerova hung tough with the No. 103 ranked player, 6-4, 7-5. After losing 6-0 in the first set to the No. 95 ranked player, Sydney Clarke took her to a breaker before falling. Mellynchuk fell 6-4 6-4 on Court 4. Annalisa Smith came back to after a 6-2 setback to win her second set 6-1. She fell in the third set 6-4. After losing the first set 6-0, Ratkic had a strong second set before falling 7-5.
Up next, UAB heads to Huntsville to face Alabama A&M on Feb. 22. The next home match on March 4 against Lipscomb at the Hoover Met.
