HOMEWOOD, Ala. – The UAB softball team went across town and picked up a 4-2 win at Samford on Wednesday night in their final midweek matchup of the season.
It was UAB's sixth straight win in a row and the sixth straight victory over the Bulldogs. Samford's last win against the Blazers was March 2, 2016.
Faith Hegh was the offensive leader for UAB in the matchup, going 3-of-4 from the plate with a single, a double and hitting her second home run of the season.
After a scoreless first and second inning, Hegh got things started for the Blazers (26-17, 12-4 C-USA) in the third, hitting a two out single. Sierra Frazier was then walked, before Analyse Petree hit a single to centerfield that scored Hegh.
Jenna Olszewski followed that up with a two RBI double down the right field line, scoring Petree and Fraizer and giving UAB a 3-0 lead.
Samford (15-24, 4-8 SoCon) was able to get on the board in the bottom of the fifth, hitting a solo home run to put the Bulldogs within two.
Hegh was able to get that run back for UAB in the top of the seventh with a shot over the right center wall, bringing the final score to 4-2.
Amy Woodham (7-8) earned the victory in the circle, going four innings, allowing just four hits and no runs and striking out two batters. This is the junior's fifth straight win.
UAB will return to Mary Bowers Field for its last regular season Conference USA matchup of the season on May 7-9, hosting Southern Miss for a four-game series.
