UAB Softball Shuts Out Southern Miss 7-0 To Open Four-Game Series

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB softball team earned their seventh straight victory on Friday night, defeating Southern Miss 7-0 at Mary Bowers Field.
The night was highlighted by a three-run homer from Sierra Frazier in the top of the first to put UAB ahead 3-0.
In the circle, Amy Woodham earned her sixth straight victory, allowing just two hits in six innings of work and striking out three batters.
UAB (27-17, 13-4 C-USA) got things going early, with KK Crocker earning a leadoff walk in the first inning, followed by a single from Faith Hegh.
Crocker and Hegh were both brought home with Frazier's ninth home run of the season, a three-run shot over the left field fence.
The Blazers added to their lead in the second, opening up with back-to-back walks from Valbak and Crocker, before Hegh doubled to center field, her twelfth two-bagger of the season.
Crocker advanced to third on the play, while Valbak was tagged out at home.
Sierra Frazier was then walked, loading the bases for the Green and Gold.
Analyse Petree scored Crocker with an RBI single, followed by a RBI sac fly from Jenna Olszewski that brought home Hegh, giving UAB a 5-0 lead.
With two outs, Jolie Readeaux then reached on a Southern Miss error that allowed Petree and Frazier to score, before Readeaux was called out at second, ending the inning.
UAB held a 7-0 lead after two, a lead they held onto for the remainder of the game.
Petree and Hegh both went 3-of-4 from the plate against the Golden Eagles, while Frazier, Sam Bean and Readeaux all recorded a hit in the matchup.
UAB and Southern Miss will meet again tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
