Blazers Stay Local for Matchup at Samford

BIRMINGHAM – After a 4-0 weekend on the road at UTSA, the UAB softball team stays local when they travel across town to Samford for a matchup on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Samford Softball Field in Homewood.
UAB LATELY
The Blazers (25-17, 12-4 C-USA) swept UTSA in San Antonio this past weekend, improving to 12-4 in conference play. UAB hit .397 as a team compared to .179 from the Roadrunners.
Analyse Petree swung the Blazers' hottest bat, averaging .571, going 8-of-14 from the plate with a team-high 10 RBIs, and hitting three home runs.
For her performance, Petree was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week on Monday, the first weekly award of her career.
Jolie Readeaux, who recorded seven hits against UTSA, has been hitting her stride in the batters' box.
In the last eight games combined, the junior outfielder is batting .478, the second highest on the team, hit her first two home runs as a Blazer and racked up nine RBIs.
In the circle, Amy Woodham earned two wins in San Antonio, tallied seven strikeouts and allowed just two earned runs in seven innings of work.
Parker Conrad, Emily Kachel and Sarah Cespedes combined for 29 strikeouts on the weekend.

Amanda Briskin is one of the Bulldogs' leading hitters, batting .352 with an on-base percentage of .397.
Timberlyn Shurbutt leads the team with 22 RBIs, 38 hits and six homeruns.
In the circle, Samford relies heavily on junior right-handed pitcher Emily Barnett who has pitched a team-high 91.2 innings. Barnett holds a 3.21 ERA, the lowest on the team, and an opposing batting average of .269.
UAB holds the 31-6 all-time record over the Bulldogs.
LAST MATCHUP
UAB took the 2-0 victory when the two teams met at Mary Bowers Field during the Blazer Classic on March 12.
Jaycee Cook earned the victory in the circle in the matchup, allowing just four hits in 6.2 innings and striking out two batters, while Woodham notched her first save.
