UAB Outlasts Jacksonville State in Midweek Slugfest

BIRMINGHAM – In a game that saw 27 combined runs, 24 hits, 20 walks, 17 pitchers, and a game time of three hours and 50 minutes, UAB (15-10, 1-2) outlasted Jacksonville State (21-5, 6-0) on Tuesday night by a score of 16-11. Tuesday's game was the third time this season the Blazers have scored at least 15 runs.
A total of nine runs were scored in the first inning, with six scored by the Gamecocks. The first five Jax State hitters reached base safely. A double, walk, single, and wild pitch plated the first two runs for JSU in the game. After a UAB pitching change and a sac fly, the Gamecocks had two on with two outs. Ace Williamson stepped in and hit his second home run of the season for a 3-run shot to cap off the 6-run first inning.
UAB would answer with three runs in the bottom of the first but did not record a hit in the inning. The Blazers took advantage of four free passes in the inning. After a bases loaded walk, Brady Waugh drove in the second run on an RBI groundout. The next batter was Andrew Hunt who drove in Landon Beaver on a sac fly to cut the JSU lead to 6-3.
The Blazers would get closer to the JSU total on a sac fly by John Paul Head which would bring the score to 6-4.
Jax State would get the run back with two outs in the top of the third. Jaxon Pate drove in Trey King to bring JSU's lead back to three runs.
The Green and Gold would surge into the lead in the bottom half of the third. Baylor Roberts would tie the game with the bases loaded as the freshman doubled home Alex Dupuy, Brady Waugh, and Max Price to tie the game at seven. The next batter, Kevin Hall Jr. singled home Roberts to give UAB its first lead of the game.
The Gamecocks would jump back in front in the top of the fourth. Grayson Ashe doubled in Cooper Blauser to tie the game. Two batters later, Trey King knocked in Ashe to give JSU a 9-8 lead.
UAB would take the lead for good in the bottom half of the fifth. Max Price doubled off the wall to bring home Andrew Hunt to tie the game at nine. Baylor Roberts' career-high third hit of the night brought home Wesley Helms to put the Blazers back in front, 10-9. The next two runs would come on JSU miscues to give UAB a 12-9 lead going into the sixth inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, Baylor Roberts drove in his career-best fifth run on a sac fly to score Wesley Helms to give UAB a 13-9 lead going into the final third of the game.
Wesley Helms and Max Price would connect on back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the seventh to add to the Blazers' largest lead of the game at six.
Jacksonville State would try to mount a rally in the top of the eighth. Cooper Blauser doubled on an 0-2 count to bring around Jaxon Pate. The next hitter, Sam Richardson grounded out which scored Caleb Johnson to cut UAB's lead to 15-11.
The first four hitters of the bottom of the eighth inning would reach for the Green and Gold. After two walks and a single, Alex Dupuy stepped in with the bases loaded. Dupuy punched the first pitch he saw through the right side to give the Blazers a 16-11 lead going into the ninth inning.
Chase Ingram pitched the final two innings and did not surrender a run and gave UAB its 15th win of the year.

- Baylor Roberts set his career-highs in RBI (5) and hits (3).
- Max Price tied his season-high with three hits and set a new career-best with four runs scored.
- All nine UAB hitters crossed the plate and seven different Blazers drove in runs.
- Tuesday was the third time this season the Green and Gold scored at least 15 runs (North Alabama and Middle Tennessee) and tied their season-high with 16 runs.
- UAB recorded its fifth game of the season with at least 10 walks. The Blazers are 5-0 in those games.
- All 15 of UAB's wins this season have come when scoring at least eight runs.
- Kevin Hall Jr. recorded his eighth multi-hit game of the season which is second-most on the team.
- Wesley Helms tallied his seventh multi-hit game and third 3-hit game of 2026.
- The Blazers 7-9 hitters combined to go 9-13 with nine runs scored, eight RBI, two doubles, and two home runs.
- Alex Dupuy (fifth), Kevin Hall Jr. (third), Max Price (third), and Baylor Roberts (third) all recorded multi-hit games.
- Chase Ingram did not allow a run through two innings of work, good for the 11th scoreless outing of his career.
UAB continues the 5-game homestand on Friday as the Blazers welcome Tulane to Young Memorial Field. All games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
