Memphis Scores Late to Beat UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The UAB men's soccer team (1-5-1) fell 3-2 on Sunday night against Memphis (2-4-3) for their first conference win of the season.
Both sides traded chances but failed to convert until the 16th minute. The Tigers struck first in the 16th minute when Samuel Mutiri finished a setup from Eben McIntyre and Lucho Galizzi. Memphis doubled its lead in the 36th minute as substitute Miller Lashlee scored his first goal of the year, assisted by Adam Aboohamidi and Galizzi. UAB pulled one back just before halftime when Gustavo Barbosa converted a penalty in the 43rd minute.
The Blazers carried that momentum into the second half, equalizing in the 60th minute on Humphrey Doh's goal assisted by Tony Kim. However, Memphis responded late, as Saad Chaouki netted the game-winner in the 83rd minute off another Aboohamidi assist.
Despite being outshot 20–13, Memphis capitalized on its chances, putting eight shots on target compared to six for UAB. Goalkeeper Filip Sabatti made four saves to secure the win, while UAB's Tom Mabon recorded five saves in the loss.
The result moves Memphis to 2-4-3 (1-1 AAC), while UAB falls to 1-5-1 (0-2 AAC).
