UAB Drops Series Opening Game to Tulane

NEW ORLEANS - UAB Baseball (18-16, 3-7) dropped the opening game of the 3-game series to Tulane (22-13, 6-4) on Friday night, 7-1.
The Blazers got off to a good start in the top of the 1st when Nick Hollifield grounded a ball up the middle to score Logan Braunschweig to put UAB up 1-0.
Tulane would be held scoreless until the bottom of the 4th. With runners on the corners and one out, James Agabedis III sent a 3-run home run over the right field fence to put the Green Wave up 3-1.
The next big inning for Tulane came in the bottom half of the 6th. Kaikea Harrison brought home Jason Wachs on a safety squeeze to add to the Green Wave advantage. After a Blazer pitching change, Matthias Haas singled on the first pitch he saw and brought in Agabedis from third. With two outs, Connor Rasmussen dropped a double down the right field line to score Haas and Gavin Schulz to give Tulane a 7-1 lead.
Justin Hicks and Caleb Pittman pitched the 7th and 8th innings respectively for the Green and Gold. Hicks struck out three of the four batters he faced while Pittman struck out two as he faced the minimum in the 8th.
Luc Fladda tossed seven innings for Tulane allowing just one run on five hits. Tayler Montiel pitched the final two innings and faced six hitters.

- Logan Braunschweig extended his on-base streak to 62 consecutive games with a double in the 1st inning.
- Todd Clay recorded his 11th multi-hit game of the season as he picked up two hits on Friday.
- Nick Hollifield upped his hitting streak to five games with an RBI single in the 1st inning. Hollifield has also reached base safely in 13 straight games.
- Tyler Waugh was hit by pitch on Friday, which extended his on-base streak to seven games.
