Timely Hitting Propels Blazers to Victory Over Tulane

NEW ORLEANS - UAB (19-16, 4-7) made the most of its opportunities offensively as the Blazers took down Tulane (22-14, 6-5) on Saturday night, 4-1. Each team had six hits, but the Green and Gold had five stolen bases which tied their season high.

In what was a low-scoring affair all night, both teams were held scoreless until the 3rd inning. The Blazers put together a couple of selfless at-bats in the top half of the inning. Wesley Helms and Nick Hollifield each cashed in on RBI groundouts to put UAB up 2-0.

The Green Wave answered back with one of their own in the bottom of the 4th. Hugh Pinkney singled to right to score Matthias Haas to cut the Blazer lead to 2-1.

The Green and Gold got two more runs in the top half of the 6th inning. Alex Cheeseman singled to left to score Landon Beaver. Then, Wesley Helms scored Cheeseman on his own single to left to inflate the Blazer lead to 4-1.

Colin Daniel was dominant for UAB as the junior right-hander tossed seven innings and did not allow an earned run on 100 pitches. Brendan Conner pitched the final two innings as he picked up his fifth save of the season, tying his teammate Ryan Olson for fourth-most in the AAC.

NOTES

Logan Braunschweig has now reached base safely in 63 consecutive games.
Nick Hollifield has reached base safely in 14 straight games. Hollifield also carries a six-game hitting streak into Sunday.
Offensively, the Blazers drew eight walks as a team. UAB is 7-0 this season when walking at least eight times.
The Green and Gold stole five bases tonight which tied their season-high (Mercyhurst on 2/15 and North Alabama on 3/2).
Colin Daniel only walked two Tulane hitters on Saturday. Daniel has allowed three walks or less in all nine starts this season.

The rubber match between UAB and Tulane will be streamed live on ESPN+ on Sunday afternoon. First pitch from Greer Field at Turchin Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
