UAB scored three of those six in the top half of the inning. With one out, the Blazers drew three consecutive walks. With the bases loaded Camden Hayslip barely missed a grand slam off the right field wall but brought home Wesley Helms and Nick Hollifield to put the Green and Gold up 2-0. The next batter was JP Head who scored Todd Clay on an RBI groundout and gave UAB a 3-0 lead.
Tulane answered back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Matthias Haas brought home Connor Rasmussen on an RBI groundout to cut the UAB lead to 3-1. With two outs, Tanner Chun doubled home Jason Wachs and Gavin Schulz to tie the game at three after just one inning of play.
The Green Wave took the lead in the bottom of the 2nd on a Schulz triple down the left field line to score Theo Bryant IV and put Tulane up 4-3.
Tulane added another run in the bottom of the 3rd when Bryant doubled to left to score Wachs to put the Green Wave up 5-3 after three innings.
The Blazers answered back in the top half of the 4th when Logan Braunschweig doubled to left center to score Landon Beaver to cut the lead to 5-4.
Theo Bryant's second hit of the day was a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 5th that scored Tanner Chun to put Tulane up 7-4 after five innings.
In the bottom of the 7th, Chun hit a solo home run to straight-away center to give the Green Wave another insurance run.
The Blazers got busy with two outs in the top of the 8th. UAB drew three straight walks, and the last of the three brought in Todd Clay to trim the Green Wave lead to 8-5. In a pinch-hit appearance, Tyler Harrington dribbled an 0-2 pitch up the middle to score Braxton Brooks and Tyler Waugh to cut the deficit to 8-7, but it wouldn't be enough as UAB was retired in order in the 9th.
