BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Softball team (9-10) dropped games against Furman (7-13) and SIUE (6-9) both on walk off hits. Furman beat UAB 10-9 in eight innings and SIUE beat UAB 4-3. Day two at the Crimson Classic was not pleasant for the UAB Blazers.

GAME ONE
UAB vs Furman
Two errors by Furman allowed UAB to put up five first inning runs on the two hits. Makenzie Droddy hit a double and Lindsey Smith singled in the first. Furman added two first inning runs to get back to within three.

Neither team scored in innings two or three. In the fourth inning, a double and an error helped the home team get back into striking distance. UAB led 5-4 after four innings.

The bats were hot again for the Blazers who lead the AAC in batting average (.347). Jenna Madison came in to play third base and hit a sacrifice fly to add a run. Hannah Dorsett singled and Hope Tucker reached on an error to score two more. UAB led 8-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. A flurry of hits and errors helped for four sixth inning runs and tie the game.

Heading into extra innings, Britt Bourgoyne scored on a wild pitch to give UAB a 10-9 lead.

The game saw ten total errors with the Paladins capturing seven of those. Furman scored two runs on a walk off single to win the game in the eighth inning.

GAME TWO
UAB vs SIUE
Looking at the score, you would think this was a pitchers dual, but there were 19 combined hits in this one.

Olivia Cummings struck out five in the game sustaining the UAB lead throughout the game. Hope Tucker and Makenzie Droddy started off the scoring in the third inning. The Cougars answer in the second with a run of their own. UAB led 2-1 after three.

Hannah Miles hit one of two triples that UAB had on the night. Miles came around to score on a wild pitch.The other one came from speedy Bella Wiggins. Wiggins, Miles, Tucker, and Droddy all had two hits on the night. UAB led 3-1.

SIUE hit a solo home run in the sixth inning before the Cougars drove two runs home in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.
