Track & Field Set to Host AAC Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM - UAB Track & Field hosts the American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend at the Birmingham Crossplex.
THE LAST TIME OUT
Three Blazers set their PR time in the 1 Mile race. Lidia Longo once again led the Blazers in the race as she finished fourth in Heat 3. With a time of 4:54.02, she now has the fourth best indoor 1 Mile time in school history. Sangie Lincoln-Velez also broke the five-minute mark coming in at 4:58.83. Lia Castillo finished at 5:00.81.
Destiny Roper and Gabby Washington set the tone for the Blazers in the first round of the 60m. Roper finished at 7.62 and Washington came in at 7.64 as the duo qualified for the semis. Roper's time in the first round is the 10th best 60m time in school history. In the semis, Washington equalled her first round time coming in at 7.64.
Christiana Mudd qualified for the semis of the 60m Hurdles with her time of 8.67, setting her PR. That PR stood for only a few minutes as Mudd came in at 8.60 in the semis, which is the eighth best 60m Hurdle time in school history.
THE FIELD
All 13 full-time members of the American Conference will compete in the meet this weekend.
HISTORY IN THE MAKING
Birthe Franck-Petersen capped off her weekend in Nashville by tossing her second best Shot Put throw in her decorated career as she finished sixth out of 43 throwers. With a mark of 13.89m, Franck-Petersen now holds nine of the top 10 Shot Put throws in school history.
NEW FACES SHOWING OUT
The Blazers have several newcomers on this year's team, and each have had no problem making an immediate impact. Hope Foster (2x), Destiny Roper (2x), Christiana Mudd (2x), and Leticia Quingostas have all recorded appearances in the top 10 in school history in their respective events.
