Recapping the Day at the Samford Invite

BIRMINGHAM - UAB Track & Field finished another strong day at the Samford Invite at the Birmingham Crossplex on Friday. The Blazers finished the day with __ personal bests.
The day began with the weight throw, an event in which all the Blazers finished with personal bests. Sarah Hopkins (15.18m), Bailey Baker (12.98m), and Laney Webb (12.67m) all saw their previous bests fall. Hopkins continues to solidify the third-best weight throw in school history.
Katelyn Valtos had a strong performance in the 800m. The freshman finished seventh overall out of 23 runners with a time of 2:18.46. Emma Kate Alexander finished at 2:21.98.
Kyra Hayes (5:20.61) and Ava Brooks (5:22.87) were the top two finishers in heat 3 on Friday.
Katie Keur and Lidia Longo had excellent finishes in the 3000m race. Keur finished fourth with a time of 9:55.77 and Longo finished sixth with a time of 9:59.46. Keur's time was her 3000m personal best. Kenlie Nelson, Sangie Lincoln-Velez, and Savannah Meyer also finished in the top 15 overall.
Corinne Ball notched her season-best in the triple jump on Friday. The junior finished with a mark of 11.81m and placed sixth overall in the event.
The 4x400 'A' Team consisting of Jasmine Dereje, Leticia Quingostas, Jordyn Dortch, and Gabby Washington placed second in Heat 2 by .66 seconds.
Overall, the Blazers had five athletes who eclipsed their personal bests on Friday.
The UAB Pole Vaulters are the lone representatives of the team competing on Saturday. They are set to begin their portion of the day at 11:30 a.m.
