Baseball Takes Game One Against Tulane

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB Baseball team got a huge win on Friday night against Tulane. The Blazers won a 6-2 American Athletic Conference contest.
Tulane started the scoring with a solo home run by Brady Marget in the 1st inning. The Green Wave scored again in the 2nd inning when Teo Banks hit a sacrifice fly to left field.
Blayze Berry started on the mound for UAB, delivering a seven inning, five strikeout performance. Berry earned the win as the Blazers got on the board in the 3rd inning. Gavin Lewis Jr started the scoring for UAB when he laid down a beautiful bunt to score Tyler Harrington. In the same inning, Brayton Brown hit a line drive over the right fielder's head to score Gavin Lewis Jr. and Peyton Puckett. Brown collected five RBIs on the night. UAB led 3-2.
The Green and Gold continued scoring, but this time on a fielder's choice that allowed Brayton Brown to reach base and Logan Braunschweig to score. The ball was hit to 2nd base before the shortstop stepped off the bag allowing the run to score. UAB led 4-2 in the 5th inning.
UAB hit the Tulane starting pitcher seven times, while putting up four runs. The Blazers did not stop scoring there, as Brayton Brown got his 4th and 5th RBIs of the night when he hit a home run to left field.
UAB had 10 hits in the game, which marked the first time since March 23rd that the team had double digit hits.
UAB is back in action tomorrow for game two against Tulane at 2 p.m.
