UAB Women’s Tennis Hosts No. 32 Florida State, UTEP at Hoover Met

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's tennis team returns home from spring break to host a pair of matches at the Hoover Met this weekend. On Saturday, nationally ranked Florida State comes to town followed by UTEP on Sunday to open the Blazers' conference schedule.

UAB LATELY
The Blazers (7-6) have dropped its last two matches against Charles Southern and College of Charleston, respectively.

FLORIDA STATE LATELY
The Seminoles (7-6) are ranked No. 32 in the latest ITA poll. FSU is coming off a 6-1 loss to No. 5 NC State on March 12.

UAB AND FLORIDA STATE HISTORY
The two teams began play in 2004 and have had matches in 2006 and 2014 with Florida State winning all three.

LAST TIME AGAINST FLORIDA STATE
No. 24 Florida State took the doubles point and three of the four singles matches in its 4-1 victory over UAB on Jan. 19, 2014. Amy Lowther picked up a win at No. 2 singles after her opponent retired.

COMMON OPPONENTS
UAB and Florida State have one common opponent: Alabama A&M.

UTEP LATELY
The Miners (3-9, 0-1 C-USA) have not registered a won over a Division I team this season. UTEP fell to UTSA 4-3 in its C-USA opener on Jan. 27.

UAB AND UTEP HISTORY
The two teams began play in 1997 and have met a total of nine times with UAB holding a 5-4 edge.

LAST TIME AGAINST UTEP
Paula Castro battled through a second-set tiebreaker to lift the 12th-seeded UAB to a 4-2 win against No. 13 seed UTEP in the first round of the 2014 Conference USA Championship on April 16, 2014.

COMMON OPPONENTS
UAB and UTEP have five common opponents: Alabama State, LA Tech, Middle Tennessee, Samford and WKU.
