HOOVER, Ala. – A record crowd of over 300 people saw the UAB women's tennis team defeat Georgia State 4-1 in its home opener on Sunday at the Hoover Met Tennis Courts.

"We want to thank everyone who came out today to help and support our team," said head coach Mark Tjia. "It was a great crowd, our largest ever. It was so much fun to play our first match at a wonderful facility at the Hoover Met. Hopefully we can get a similar turnout during our future home matches."

The Blazers (3-3) were ahead before the match started because GSU defaulted at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles due to only having five active players.

In doubles, Adela Wasserbauerova and Mackenzie White made quick work of their opponent to clinch the point, 6-2 which put UAB ahead 2-0.

Enya Ratkic was up 5-0 in the 1st set when her opponent withdrew, which made the score 3-0. Annalisa Smith got the clincher on Court 4 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

The day concluded with a postmatch event at Rocks Gap Brewery with a concert from The Kensingtons.

Up next, the Blazers remain in Birmingham to face Samford in Homewood on Feb. 15. The next home match on March 4 against Lipscomb at the Hoover Met.
