UAB Sweeps Home Stand With Wins Over Chattanooga, Alabama A&M

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's tennis team swept its weekend schedule with wins over Chattanooga on Friday and Alabama A&M on Saturday at the Lakeshore Tennis Courts.
The Blazers (6-7) defeated the Mocs 5-2 on Friday, rallying from a defeat in the doubles point to post five singles victories in the win. UAB then dominated in-state foe Alabama A&M the following day, winning the doubles point before earning five singles victories.
UAB 5, CHATTANOOGA 2
After dropping the doubles point, the Blazers responded with back-to-back singles victories on courts four and one to take their first lead of the match on Friday. Roman Postolka evened the match at 1-1 with a swift 6-1, 6-2 win on court four. Ace Michal Lusovsky then dispatched Chattanooga ace Kerim Hyatt on court one 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 to put the Blazers in front.
Vojtech Podzemny then put the Blazers within one point of clinching the match when he rallied from a first-set defeat on court three, earning a 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 win over UTC's Peyton Gatti. The Mocs earned a three-set victory on court five to make it 3-2 with two singles matches to play on courts six and two.
Martin Vasquez sealed the victory for the Blazers on court six, rebounding from a loss in the opening set to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 over Chattanooga's Jacob Marshall. Thanos Spyropoulos then notched UAB's fifth win in singles with a 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) win on court two.
UAB earned revenge over the Mocs on Friday after losing 7-0 at Chattanooga this past season, defending home court to then move to 5-7 on the season.
UAB 6, ALABAMA A&M 1
UAB recorded wins on courts two and three to secure the doubles point on Saturday, opening the match with a 1-0 lead. The pairings of Michal Lusovsky and Martin Vasquez and Parker Bradbary and Chase Parker tallied 6-1 and 6-4 victories, respectively, to put the Blazers in the lead for good.
Lusovsky put the Blazers up 2-0 with a quick 6-1, 6-3 win on court one. Alabama A&M earned its sole singles victory on court four to trim its deficit to 2-1, but UAB would respond with four singles victories to close the match.
Bradbary earned a 6-3, 7-5 win on court six, while freshman Nir Vodavoz earned a three-set victory over Alabama A&M's Divesh Gahlot 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 to seal the match for the Blazers.
Thanos Spyropoulos earned another UAB victory in straight sets with a 7-6 (13-11), 6-4 win on court two to make it 5-1 Blazers before Parker closed the match with a 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (12-10) win on court five.

UAB will face its third in-state opponent in its past four times on the court when the Blazers travel to Troy on Friday, March 11. Next Friday's match at the Lunsford Tennis Complex is set for 2 p.m.
