UAB Falls to Nationally Ranked Florida, North Florida

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's tennis team had its toughest road trip of the season this past weekend. The Blazers fell to No. 15 Florida and North Florida.
NO. 15 FLORIDA 7, UAB 0
The Gators (10-4) came into Wednesday's match off a 4-1 victory over No. 16 Tennessee. UF took the singles point and won four of the six matches in straight sets. Adela Wasserbauerova won the first set on Court 1 6-2 and Maggie White won her first set on Court 5 6-3. Mackenzie White battled in her first set, but fell in a breaker 7-4.
NORTH FLORIDA 6, UAB 1
Although the Ospreys came in a 6-7 on the season, their schedule has seen four ranked teams and as well as a pair of Power 5 schools. The Blazers came of the gates with Wasserbauerova and Mackenzie White winning the double match on Court 2 6-2. However, UNF went on to win the doubles point as well as straight sets singles victories on Courts 2 and 4. Vanessa Mellynchuk recorded the Blazers' point with a 6-4, 6-1 win on Court 6.
UAB took three matches to three sets. On Court 1, Wasserbauerova bounced back after falling 6-2 in the first set to winning in a breaker in the second. She fell in the third set 6-2. Mackenzie White split the first two sets – each was 6-2 – before falling in the 3rd set tiebreaker 7-5. Maggie White also had another close match on Court 5. She lost the first set 6-3, won the second 7-5 and dropped the third 6-4.

The Blazers return home to Birmingham on March 27 for Senior Day against No. 46 Memphis. Jana Hecking will be honored in a pregame ceremony. Pizza will be served and free t-shirts will be given to the first 25 fans. The match is at Lakeshore Tennis Courts at 3700 Ridgeway Drive - Birmingham, Alabama 35209.
