Women’s Tennis Prepares for Conference USA Championship

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's tennis team begins its quest for its first Conference USA title since the 1996 season when the Blazers take on UTSA on Thursday afternoon in the First Round of the C-USA Championship. Match time is 9 a.m. The event will take place in Denton, Texas and will be hosted by North Texas.
UAB LATELY
The Blazers (13-6, 3-1 C-USA) are the No. 8 seed and are on a five match winning streak dating back to March 20 and have won 11 of their last 12 matches.
Annalisa Smith leads all Blazers with 19 singles wins. She has an 11 match winning streak and is 11-2 overall at the No. 6 position. Sydney Clarke has recorded 17 singles wins, going 7-2 at No. 4. Both had victories over Georgia Tech, who was ranked No. 8 in the country at the time. Dominika Hrabalova, winner of 10 straight matches, is 6-1 at No. 3. Megan Bertrands has won her last eight matches and is a perfect 8-0 splitting time at the No.4 and No. 5 positions.

The Blazers and Roadrunners have met three times, with UAB holding a 2-1 edge. All three matches have been played in Birmingham, with the last being a 4-3 Blazers win on March 8, 2015.
