UAB Advances to C-USA Quarterfinals After 4-0 Victory Over UTSA

DENTON, Texas – The No. 8 seed UAB women's tennis team, advanced to the Conference USA quarterfinals after a 4-0 win over No. 9 seed UTSA on Thursday morning. This marks the first time a Blazer team has advanced in the conference tournament since the 2014 season.
UAB took the doubles point with an Adela Wasserbauerova and Dominika Hrabalova 6-4 win on Court 1. Maggie White and Alexandra da Silva clinched the doubles point on Court 3 by winning in a breaker, 7-6.
Annalisa Smith was a straight set winner on Court 6 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory to put the Blazers ahead 2-0. Sydney Clarke took the match on Court 4 to give UAB a 3-0 advantage with a 7-6, 6-1 win. Wasserbauerova got the clincher on Court 2, winning 6-1, 1-6, 7-5.
"We are proud of the way the team fought through the pivotal and challenging moments," said head coach Mark Tjia. "Winning the doubles point was big as we have not won many this year. We have an even bigger challenge tomorrow and we are looking forward to it."
UAB (14-6) takes on top seed Old Dominion (9-4) on Friday at 10 a.m. in the quarterfinal round.
