UAB Falls to No. 34 Old Dominion 4-0 in C-USA Quarterfinals

DENTON, Texas – The No. 8 seed UAB women's tennis team fell to No. 1 seed Old Dominion in the Conference USA quarterfinals 4-0 on Friday morning.
The Blazers finish the 2021 season with a 14-7 record, and were the first UAB squad to advance in the C-USA Championship since 2014.
ODU is ranked No. 34 in the country and had two of its three doubles team nationally ranked. On court 2, Annalisa Smith and Sydney Clarke fell to the No. 76 ranked team of Holly Hutchinson and Tatsiana Sasnouskaya 6-3.
Maggie White and Alexandra da Silva were defeated by Alexandra Viktorovic and Brooke Pilkington 6-4 on Court 3.
Dominika Hrabalova and Adela Wasserbauerova were deadlocked at 4-4 against the No. 60 ranked team of Yulia Starodubtseva and Alesya Yakubovich when the point was decided.
The Monarchs went ahead 2-0 after Viktorovic defeated Smith 6-2, 6-0 on Court 6. Wasserbauerova fell to No. 52 Starodubtseva 6-2, 6-0 before the clincher on Court 3, No. 64 Sasnouskaya's 6-2, 6-2 win over Hrabalova.
When the match was decided, Jana Hecking was trailing No. 123 Hutchinson 7-5, 3-1 on Court 1, Clarke was leading Yakubovich 6-2, 4-4 on Court 4 and Megan Bertrands was behind Pilkington 6-5 on Court 5.
UAB's 14 wins was the most since the 2005 season under Mert Ertunga and the most for head coach Mark Tjia since he took over the program in 2014.
