UAB Softball Splits Doubleheader with LA Tech

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB softball team (20-17, 7-4 C-USA)split their doubleheader against Louisiana Tech (14-21, 4-3 C-USA) on Saturday afternoon, taking game one 3-1 before falling 6-2 in game two.
Jenna Olszewski hit her second homerun of the series, while Amy Woodham (3-8) earned her third victory of the season in the circle behind a career-high 10 strikeouts.
GAME 1: UAB: 3, LA TECH: 1
The first game of the doubleheader was a pitcher's duel through the first three scoreless innings.
Jenna Olszewski was able to get the Blazers on the board in the fourth with a shot to left field, her second straight game with a homerun.
After Sierra Frazier and Analyse Petree drew back-to-back walks, UAB was able to plate another run in the inning after an error from the LA Tech shortstop scored pinch runner Lilly Crowe.
UAB led 2-0 after four.
Petree gave the Green and Gold an insurance run in the fifth with an RBI single that scored KK Crocker.
The Lady Techsters broke the shutout in the top of the sixth, tripling to right field and plating one run.
Olivia Valbak entered the game in the top of the seventh, striking out the side and earning her third save of the season.
In the matchup, Frazier notched her 100th career hit with a double in her first at bat. She is the second Blazer in the series to make it to the century mark, with Faith Hegh reaching the milestone in the first game of the series.
GAME 2: UAB: 2, LA Tech: 6
In the second game of the day, LA Tech got off to a quick start. The Lady Techsters plated two runs in the top of the first, going up 2-0 early.
After trading zeros in the second and third innings, La Tech added one run in the fourth and another three runs in the fifth to hold a 6-0 advantage.
UAB was able to get on the board in the sixth inning, after Olivia Valbak reached on a fielder's choice and pinch runner Chloe Bahruth scored. Analyse Petree plated the final run of the day for the Blazers, scoring on a wild pitch.
Sarah Cespedes (2-1) was on the hook for the loss, giving up two runs in 1.2 innings pitched.
The Blazers, who have gone 2-1 against LA Tech this weekend, will look to clinch the series tomorrow at 12 p.m. in the series finale at Mary Bowers Field.
