UAB Baseball Falls to Southern Miss in Series Finale

With the win, Southern Miss (21-9, 8-3 CUSA) completed the series sweep. It marks the first time since 2019 UAB (10-20, 3-9 CUSA) was swept in a Conference USA series on the road.
Southern Miss opened up the scoring in the first inning off a three-run home run by Christopher Sargent.
In the top of the third, Leo Harris reached on an error by the first baseman and Chandler Simpson advanced Harris to third on a single. Jess Davis grounded out to second base but brought in Harris. Colton Schultz brought in Simpson in the next at-bat to make it a one-run game, 3-2.
The Golden Eagles answered in the bottom of the inning with two home runs to bring the score to 6-2.
UAB led off the top of the fourth with back-to-back singles by Ian Ladner and Darryl Buggs. Joseph Kiel hit a sacrifice fly out to left to bring in Ladner, cutting USM's lead in half. Southern Miss brought in a run in the bottom of the inning for the 7-3 advantage.
Thomas Johnston came in to pinch hit with one out in the seventh and hit a ground-rule double to score John Marc Mullins from second, bringing the Blazers within three, 7-4.
Southern Miss added two runs in the bottom of the seventh and five in the eighth to go up by the final score of 14-4.
