BIRMINGHAM — The UAB baseball team fell to Troy by a final tally of 12-4 on Tuesday night at Regions Field.

Seven Blazers (10-21, 3-9 CUSA) recorded hits in the game, with Chandler Simpson and Jake Killingsworth having a multi-hit game. Sophomore Matthew Reed took the loss for the Blazers and fell to 0-1 on the season.

Troy (15-16, 3-6 SBC) opened up the scoring in the first inning. The Trojans plated three runs on four hits.

UAB answered in the bottom of the first with two runs. With runners on first and third, Ian Ladner singled down the left field line to bring in Simpson. Designated hitter Thomas Johnston hit a single through the left side to score Colton Schultz and cut Troy's lead to one, 3-2.

The Blazers tied the game at three in the bottom of the second on a Simpson groundout to advance Jess Davis home from third.

In the fourth, the Trojans added six runs on one hit to take the lead, 9-3. Troy added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth and one in the seventh for the 12-3 advantage.

John Marc Mullins hit a two-out triple in the bottom of the eighth and came home on a Pate Fullerton single. There was no movement on the scoreboard in the final frame for either side as Troy closed out the game on top, 12-4.

UAB returns to the diamond against Conference USA opponent Florida Atlantic on April 16-18 at Young Memorial Field. Streaming information and live stats for each game will be available on the UAB baseball schedule page.

BASEBALL AT YOUNG MEMORIAL FIELD

Fans, including Gold Card holders and students, will not be permitted to attend home baseball games played at Young Memorial Field. Attendees will be limited to the player pass list and limited premium spaces.

Attendees will be asked to practice social distancing and wear a mask at all times per state and county ordinance.

Regions Field will accommodate fans, including Gold Card holders and students, with social distancing measures in place.

Fans will be asked to practice social distancing and sit in available seats. Masks are required at all times per state and county ordinance.
