BIRMINGHAM — The UAB baseball team scored a pair of runs in the 10th inning for its first walk-off win of the season in a 7-6 decision on Friday at Young Memorial Field.

Junior designated hitter Ian Ladner provided the game-winner, a one-out hit off Florida Atlantic's Braden Ostrander. Brady Greene picked up his third win of the season after coming in the 10th as the Blazers improved to 11-21, 4-9 C-USA.

"That was a fun and special win," head coach Perry Roth said. "Ian has battled through a lot in his career to get back healthy and playing. That walk off hit was a special moment for him and our team."

After two scoreless innings, Florida Atlantic (16-17, 5-8 C-USA) scored a run in the third inning for the 1-0 advantage.

In the fourth, Jess Davis led off with a home run, his third of the season, to tie the game at one. Ladner added a run on a stand-up double to bring in Chandler Simpson to take the lead, 2-1.

The Blazers added three runs in the fifth, while Florida Atlantic added a run in the sixth and eighth to make it a two-run game, 5-3.

Back-to-back walks and a wild pitch put runners on second and third with no out for the Owls in the top of the ninth. Two sacrifice flies tied the game at five. The Blazers did not bring in a run in the bottom of the inning to take the game into extras.

Florida Atlantic's Cade Parker began the 10th on second. He was brought in two batters later on a sacrifice fly from Victor Castillo for the 6-5 lead.

In the bottom of the 10th, Pate Fullerton was the baserunner on second of the Blazers. Simpson walked and Colton Schultz singled to left to load the bases with one out. Zack Davis brought in Fullerton on a sac fly to tie the game at six before Ladner delivered the game-winner.

The series continues Saturday for a seven-inning double header with first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Young Memorial Field. Streaming information and live stats will be available on the UAB baseball schedule page.

BASEBALL AT YOUNG MEMORIAL FIELD

Fans, including Gold Card holders and students, will not be permitted to attend home baseball games played at Young Memorial Field. Attendees will be limited to the player pass list and limited premium spaces.

Attendees will be asked to practice social distancing and wear a mask at all times per state and county ordinance.
