Women’s Tennis Tops Lipscomb, 4-2, on Saturday

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB women's tennis team defeated Lipscomb, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at George Ward Park.
The Blazers (6-5, 0-0 C-USA) claimed the doubles point on courts two and three, as Jana Hecking/Sydney Clarke overacame Anja Trbeznik/Emma Zakordoniec, 6-4, and Annalisa Smith/Megan Bertrands bested Maddox Bandy/Perri Howard, 6-2, respectively.
Going into singles play up 1-0, the Green and Gold won on courts two, four and five to clinch the match. On court two, ITA National Player of the Week Dominika Hrabalova topped Zakordoniec, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3. Court four saw Megan Bertrands defeat Trbeznik, 6-1, 6-1, while Smith was victorious on court five, winning against Liza Diachenko, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
Lipscomb's (3-4, 0-0 ASUN) two points were the result of singles wins on courts three and six, while the match on court one was unfinished.
The Blazers are now 4-1 in matches played at home in the Magic City.
UAB returns to the courts on Sunday as the Blazers play host to Tulane (8-3, 0-0 AAC) at George Ward Park. First serve is scheduled for noon.
