UAB Baseball Drops Game Two to Indiana State, 10-8

BIRMINGHAM — The UAB baseball team dropped a close contest against Indiana State in a 10-8 decision on Saturday at Young Memorial Field. The Blazers fall to 6-10, 0-0 CUSA and Indiana State improves to 11-5, 0-0 MVC on the season.

It was a back-and-forth contest to start the game as both teams combined to score 10 runs in the first five innings. The Green and Gold held the 6-4 advantage at that point.

Indiana State scored a run in the seventh and two in the eighth for the one-run lead. Ian Ladner led off the bottom of the eighth with a solo home run to left to tie the game at seven, his first of the season.

Indiana State answered with three runs in the top of the ninth to retake the lead, 10-7. Colton Schultz was hit by a pitch to get on base with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Two batters later, Zack Davis hit a double that scored Schultz to cut the Sycamores' lead to two. Tyler Grauer struck out the final batter to end the game, 10-8.

Tyler O'Clair matched a career-high, going seven innings with four strikeouts. Redshirt junior Tanner Rusk pitched 1.2 innings of relief, allowing four hits and two runs, for his first loss of the season.

Eight Blazers had hits in the game, led by Ladner, John Marc Mullins and Zack Davis with two hits and two RBIs each.

UAB and Indiana State will be back for series finale on Sunday at Young Memorial Field with a 1 p.m. first pitch. Live stats and streaming information for each game is available on the UAB baseball schedule page.
