Blazers Take Game Three of Weekend Series with Indiana State

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB baseball team claimed victory in game three of its weekend series with Indiana State on Sunday afternoon at Young Memorial Field.
Carson Knight picked up his second win of the season and improved to 2-1 on the year, going five innings, giving up three runs on six hits with two strikeouts.
"It was a really good win today and it was nice to get back to playing like we are capable if," head coach Perry Roth said. "Carson really gutted it out and made so tough pitches when he needed to and the bullpen and defense did their part."
Ian Ladner tallied four hits and drove in two runs, while Colton Schultz knocked his second home run of the season over the right field wall.
Jess Davis also notched multiple hits, as the sophomore from Kearney, Mo. was credited with a double and a single.
The Sycamores opened up scoring in the top of the first as they tallied two runs. UAB evened the score in the bottom half, as Jess Davis reached on an error before advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt by Chandler Simpson. Schultz then sent a two-run shot over the right field wall to tie the game.
Indiana State took back the lead in the third, scoring one run on an RBI double down the left field line to make the score 3-2.
The Blazers struck twice in the bottom half of the third on a Thomas Johnson single to left, scoring Jess Davis, and a Ladner single, scoring Schultz. The Green and Gold led 5-3 after three.
UAB scored in each of the next two innings as well. In the fourth, Jess Davis drove in Joseph Kiel to put the Blazers up 6-3. The Blazers added a tetrad of runs in the fifth, as John Marc Mullins drove in Johnston via a fielder's choice before Pate Fullerton scored Ladner on a single up the middle. Chandler Simpson then knocked home two more runs, as Mullins and Pate Fullerton each crossed home plate.
Indiana State rallied for a run in the sixth on an RBI double.
UAB tacked on one insurance run in the sixth, as Ladner singled up the middle to score Zack Davis.
UAB improves to 7-10 on the season and will face cross-town rival Samford on Tuesday at Regions Field before hosting Middle Tennessee for the first Conference USA series of the season March 26-28.
BASEBALL AT YOUNG MEMORIAL FIELD
Fans, including Gold Card holders and students, will not be permitted to attend home baseball games played at Young Memorial Field. Attendees will be limited to the player pass list and limited premium spaces.
Attendees will be asked to practice social distancing and wear a mask at all times per state and county ordinance.

Regions Field will accommodate fans, including Gold Card holders and students, with social distancing measures in place.
