BIRMINGHAM - Entering this weekend of action, the UAB women's tennis team will be taking the court in the Samford Hidden Dual tournament hosted by Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. on September 28-30.
The Blazers are set to match up with Southern Mississippi at 10 a.m. and Arkansas State at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 28.
On Saturday, UAB will face off in a doubles match versus Samford at 10 a.m. and in a singles match verses USM at 1 p.m.
Sunday the Blazers wrap up the tournament with doubles against ASU at 10 a.m. and singles against Samford at 1 p.m.
"We are grateful for the opportunity to compete here in Birmingham after traveling the last couple of weeks," head coach Mark Tija said. "We are really looking forward to competing next to one another in this hidden dual format; for a couple of us it will be our first action of the fall. We hope to see some Blazer fans out there at some point this weekend."
UAB is coming off of a tournament performance in the Milwaukee Classic where senior Alexandra Shchipakina and junior Marlene Herrmann both put up impressive victories for the Blazers over the four-day event.
Herrmann lead the Blazers with victories over Colorado State's Emily Luetschwage (6-4, 6-4) and Cincinnati's Ioana Guna.
In the opening round of doubles, Hermann, along with Alexandra Shchipakina, claimed a strong 8-4 win over Michigan State's Lauren Lemonds and Samantha Memije.
