BIRMINGHAM – A second half goal was not enough for the UAB men's soccer team as it battled Marshall to a 1-1 double overtime on Saturday night at BBVA Compass Field.

The tie tonight marked an unbeaten week for the Blazers after a 1-1 double overtime tie against Memphis on Tuesday night.

"I thought Marshall was a very good team," head coach Mike Getman said. "They kept possession well and they made us work hard. But we scored the goal, had two off the posts, had three that got cleared off the line so when you are creating that many chances you are doing something right."

Philip Makinde put the Blazers on the board first in the 54th minute has he found the back of the net off of a touch from Gael Mabiala to give UAB a 1-0 lead.

Marshall would tie the match 11 minutes later in the 65th minute when the Thundering Herd made good of a UAB foul to put the match at 1-1.

For Makinde it was his second goal scored this week, and second of the season, after he also found the back of the net against Memphis. The assist marked the first of Mabiala's career.

Tonight's overtime contest was the sixth one of UAB's eight-game season thus far. The Blazers improve to 1-3-2 in extra time contest this year.

"Six of eight games have gone into overtime so our work rate, our fitness and our heart is not something that you can complain about," Getman said. "The soccer gods may be mad at us a little bit, I do not know why, but if we keep playing this hard and as well as we are playing then I know the results are going to come."

The Blazers return to the pitch Tuesday night with a midweek contest at Lipscomb. Kickoff between the Blazers and Bison is slated for 7:30 p.m. from Nashville.
