UAB Prepares for Conference Tournament

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following UAB's series win over North Texas, the Blazers won the Western Division and secured a second overall seed in this week's Conference USA Tournament played in Charlotte, N.C.
The tournament runs from May 9-12 and is broken into a single and double elimination format. The first and second rounds are single elimination with the No. 5 seed playing No. 8 and No. 6 going against No. 7.
The winners of those games will play the the No. 3 and 4 seeds later on opening day. On the UAB side of the bracket, No. 6 Middle Tennessee will face No. 7 North Texas with the winner playing No. 3 FIU. The Blazers will face the winner of that match up on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. ET.
UAB (25-30-1, 15-8-1 C-USA) earned a double bye out of the first two rounds with its regular-season finish.
"Getting the double bye is a big accomplishment and gives us a little more time to rest up before diving into the conference tournament," head coach Amanda Ellis said. "It lets us skip single elimination and go right into the double elimination portion of the championship. We have stay focused and take care of business to get where we want to be. We can't let up."
UAB has faced two of the three teams on its side of the bracket this season, having met North Texas last weekend, taking the series 2-1. On March 30-31, UAB faced off with Middle Tennessee and took that series, 2-1, as well. The Blazers haven't faced FIU since 2016, but UAB came away with the 2-1 series victory that season.
Leading into the tournament, UAB had three players land on All-Conference Teams. Natalie Erwin was named to the First Team and Destini England earned a spot on the Second Team, while Emily Kachel landed on the All-Freshman Team.
Broadcast Info
The first nine games of the C-USA Tournament will be broadcast on beIN Sports with the 10th game, the championship game, being shown on the CBS Sports Network. Links can be found on the UAB softball schedule page. All nine games will also be available to stream on beIN's YouTube channel.
The championship game is scheduled for May 12 at noon.
