UAB Three-Hits Lipscomb but Falls on the Road

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The UAB softball team had a solid pitching performance on Tuesday night but fell to Lipscomb 2-0 at Draper Field.
Emily Kachel (9-10) got the start for the Blazers tossing five innings while recording three strikeouts and allowing just three hits. Kachel gave up two runs, one earned and walked two batters.
Megan Smith came on in relief for Kachel and threw one inning tallying a strikeout without allowing a hit. On the offensively side, Destini England picked up both of the Blazers hits with a double in the first and a single to right in the third.
Lipscomb's starter Chloe Yeager, threw a complete-game allowing two hits and walking one. UAB didn't strikeout in the game.
The Bisons (23-10) scored both of their runs in the fourth with a lead off double from Abby Fenichel. A ground out moved her to third and a throwing error allowed Fenichel to score and give Lipscomb the lead.
Another double from Sarah Higgins put another runner in scoring position. After a walk, Caitlin Plocheck hit into a fielder's choice to advance Higgins to third but a throwing error let her come around to score as Lipscomb took a 2-0 lead.
UAB's best chance to score came in the first inning when the Blazers loaded the bases with one out but a foul out and a ground out ended the inning and the threat.

The Blazers will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. to battle the Golden Eagles in Conference USA action. UAB currently sits third in the conference with a 5-3-1 record.
