Blazers to Play Trio of Home Matches
3/6/2018 8:51:00 AM | Women's Tennis
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women's tennis team concludes a four-match homestand this week when the Blazers welcome UT Martin, Murray State and WKU to George Ward Park.
Each match features a prize court in the 10-minute intermission between doubles and singles where fans are invited to come onto the court and hit tennis balls at targets. Rackets will be provided, and prizes will be awarded if anyone hits a target. Over $150 in prizes, t-shirts and backpacks will all be available to win. Free pizza will also be provided during the break between doubles and singles.
MATCH INFORMATION
Opponent: UT Martin
Date: Wednesday, March 7, 2018
Time: 2 p.m.
Location: Birmingham, Ala.
Venue: George Ward Park
Tjia Talk: "UT Martin has beaten us the last two years, so we know they are a very competitive bunch and we will have to be ready for another tough and close match, just like this past Sunday. It will be a good test for us see if we can play these tough programs back to back with little rest."
MATCH INFORMATION
Opponent: Murray State
Date: Friday, March 9, 2018
Time: 2 p.m.
Location: Birmingham, Ala.
Venue: George Ward Park
Tjia Talk: "Since I have been here we have not played Murray State, but we have seen them in some of the fall tournaments and they are very good. They were in the NCAA tournament not too long ago, so we know they are a program with a lot of experience, success and pride. With so many tough opponents this week, we try to just focus on our own attitude and effort regardless of who the opponent is. If you start looking at the resumes of all the teams we have coming in this week, it can seem really daunting."
MATCH INFORMATION
Opponent: WKU
Date: Saturday, March 10, 2018
Time: 2 p.m.
Location: Birmingham, Ala.
Venue: George Ward Park
Tjia Talk: "This WKU match was rescheduled from an earlier rainout. Hopefully the weather will cooperate this time. They are certainly among the top teams in Conference USA, having made the semifinals of the conference tournament last year. They are a very talented bunch. We are really hoping for a good home crowd to help us through this match. They are the highest ranked team we have at home left on our schedule and we could use the help. We will be giving double the Fired Up Reward points for this match, along with our usual free pizza and prizes on our prize court."
