BIRMINGHAM – Currently sitting in seventh place in the league standings, the UAB women's soccer team is set to host WKU at 7:00 p.m. for a Friday night showdown at BBVA Compass Field.
UAB (7-6-1, 4-3-0 C-USA) claimed the program's first victory against WKU (4-7-4, 2-4-2 C-USA) last year, winning the match by a score of 2-0 in Birmingham.
"Across the board this weekend is crucial for 75 percent of our conference and we are massively involved within that group of teams," UAB head coach Erica Demers said.
"Nothing has been determined yet and we are playing this weekend with a desire to extend our season. We need to perform well so that our season is in our hands and we can control our fate."
The Blazers are coming off a 1-0 loss at Old Dominion, but defeated Charlotte, 1-0, for the program's first win against the 49ers since 2003 on the same road trip.
Blazer goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty ranks second in the league in saves (74) and saves per game (5.29), while sitting in third in the conference in both shutouts (5) and save percentage (.831). Daugherty is only eight saves away from the school record 341 career saves.
Sophomore forward Kamilah Mustapha leads the team with seven goals and 15 points on the campaign. Junior Jamiera Lunsford paces the squad in both shots (20) and shots on goal (11).
WKU is lead by Ambere Barnett and Sarah Gorham, who have each scored five goals on the season. Barnett also leads the Hilltoppers in assists with seven.
Fans will be able to catch all of the action via livestream on CUSA.tv, while live stats for Sunday's match will also be provided here.
Fans can receive access to every women's soccer, men's soccer, women's basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball game for the entire 2018-19 season by purchasing a Gold Card. Contact the UAB Ticket Office (205) 975-UAB1 for more details.
