UAB Falls to Ole Miss, 2-0

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's soccer (1-2-1) battled Ole Miss (4-0-0) through a scoreless opening half before two second-half goals lifted the Rebels to a 2-0 victory Sunday evening at PNC Field.
UAB goalkeeper Leah Parsons helped keep the Rebels off the board in the opening 45 minutes, recording three saves. Ole Miss generated six first-half shots, but the Blazer defense held firm as the teams entered halftime scoreless. UAB's best opportunity of the opening period came in the 37th minute when Lola Sommer put a shot on target that was saved by Ole Miss goalkeeper Taylor Prigge.
The Blazers came out of the break looking to break the deadlock as Lailah Stewart fired a shot high less than two minutes into the second half. Ole Miss responded and opened the scoring in the 57th minute when Sarah Granno found the back of the net off an assist from Teaghan Irvin.
The Rebels doubled their advantage just over six minutes later when Becca Skinner converted a penalty kick in the 63rdminute to make it 2-0. UAB continued to push forward, and Avery Berryman forced Prigge into a save in the 65th minute before Vita Naihin sent an attempt wide in the 73rd.
UAB finished the match with five shots, including two on goal. Naihin led the Blazers with two attempts, while Berryman, Stewart and Sommer each recorded one. Parsons played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with three saves.
Ole Miss held a 13-5 advantage in shots and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks. The Rebels placed five shots on target.
Up next, the Blazers travel to UCF on Thursday, August 27. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT.
