Dodds Claims Win at ITA Southern Regional

BIRMINGHAM – Facing some of the top players in the NCAA, the UAB women's tennis team battled through some tough matches over the weekend at the ITA Southern Regional in Oxford, Mississippi.
Senior Sophie Dodds claimed UAB's lone win of the tournament in the consolation bracket with a win over Southern Miss' Ebru Yazgan. Dodds had a good opportunity to claim another win, but fell in a heartbreaker to Tulane's Christina Sisti, 2-6, 6-0, 5-10.
"It was a rough weekend for the Blazers," head coach Mark Tjia said. "It was definitely not our finest performance of the fall, but we can chalk it up to experience gained. I am confident that this group will learn and get better from this tournament."
Junior Marlene Herrmann and sophomores Megan Bertrands, Sonia Grzywocz and Jana Hecking were also in action over the weekend.
UAB returns to action on October 26 when it makes the short drive to Tuscaloosa to compete in the Roberta Allison Invitational. More information on the tournament can be found here.
