BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men’s basketball team plays its final road game of the season Sunday at 1 p.m. when the Blazers travel to Bowling Green, Ky., to face WKU from Diddle Arena.
The game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network with John Sadak and Chris Walker calling all the action. Fans can also tune in to and listen to David Crane, "The Voice of the Blazers," on the flagship station for UAB men's basketball, WZRR-FM Talk 99.5 or on the UAB Gameday mobile app.
UAB (15-12, 8-6) saw its eight-game winning streak over Marshall come to an end on Thursday after falling 74-59 to the Thundering Herd. Blazer senior Dirk Williams scored a career-high 23 points and went 9-for-11 from the field. Williams enters the weekend third on the team with 10.5 points per game to go along with a team-high 48 three-pointers made.
Junior forward William Lee leads UAB with 12.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game and is only 40 points shy of becoming the 22nd Blazer in school history to score 1,000 career points. The Plantersville, Ala., native is also 23rd in the NCAA with 2.4 blocks per game and is 12th all-time in Conference USA history.
Chris Cokley, who joined the UAB 1,000-point club earlier this month, is second on the team with 11.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. The Savannah, Ga., native is also second in the league and 30th in the NCAA with a .588 field goal percentage.
WKU (12-14, 6-7) lost its second straight game and has dropped three of its last four after falling 78-52 at home to Middle Tennessee. The Hilltoppers are 3-3 at home in C-USA play this season and sit in eighth place in the league standings.
Senior guard Que Johnson leads the WKU offense with 13.8 points per game and a team-high 23 steals. Junior Justin Johnson leads the Hilltoppers with 9.0 rebounds per game and also pours in 13.8 points per game. Pancake Thomas also averages double digits with 13.3 points per contest.
UAB and WKU will meet on the hardwood for the 35th time in school history when the two teams battle on Sunday. The Blazers own a 22-12 lead in the all-time series that dates back to the 1980-81 season. UAB has won four of the last six meetings with the Hilltoppers, including a 72-54 victory earlier this season in Birmingham. The Blazers have lost two straight games at Diddle Arena and will be looking for their first win in Bowling Green since 1998.
