UAB Falls in Quarterfinals Against No. 5 Charlotte

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB Men's Basketball team (20-12, 11-7 American) season might have come to an end against No. 5 Charlotte (16-16, 9-9 American) 83-78 on Friday afternoon in the American Conference Tournament. Daniel Rivera led the team with 20 points and nine rebounds for his second straight 20+ point game. KyeRon Lindsay-Martin (12) and Quaran McPherson (14) both scored in double digits.

Game Notes
- UAB's streak of seven straight conference semifinals has now ended. The last time they did not make the conference semifinals was in 2017-18.
- The starting lineup of Anderson, Westry, Meyer, Chatman, and Rivera are 5-0 entering the game against Charlotte and now drops to 5-1.
- Ahmad Robinson returned to action for the first time since Feb. 11 against Tulsa.
- Lindsay-Martin got his 3rd straight double-digit scoring game in a row with 12 points.
- Dezayne Mingo scored 35 points to lead all scorers, shooting 8-of-11 from three-point range.
- UAB was 14-4 when leading at the half but have now dropped to 14-5.
- Chance Westry put up a career high in assists with 15 which also set the single-game American Conference Tournament record.
- Quaran McPherson scored 14 points, which is the most points he has scored in a game since Jan. 4 against South Florida. He scored 17 at USF.
- UAB shot 51% from the field (32-for-63), 21% from three (4-for-19), and 59% from the free-throw line (10-for-17).
- Arden Conyers opened up the scoring after an offensive rebound by the 49ers. The rebound was kicked out for a three [0-3].
- Charlotte started the game on a 7-0 scoring run in the first two and a half minutes of play.
- Jacob Meyer hit a three just before the first media timeout [6-10].
- UAB took its first lead of the game on a KyeRon Lindsay-Martin three-point shot [12-11], 12:36 left in the half.
- Daniel Rivera gave UAB a five-point lead when he made back-to-back tough layups [23-18].
- Both teams went back and forth the last four minutes of play keeping the score close at the break [33-31]. Salim London hit both free throws with 3.1 seconds on the clock.
- Dezayne Mingo led all scorers with 16 points at halftime.
- Charlotte scored first out of the half on a fast break layup by Ben Bradford [33-33].
- UAB put together a quick 4-0 run on back-to-back Dayjaun Anderson layups. The second layup went up and under the big 7'2 Bonke from Charlotte [41-38].
- Chance Westry finally got to the rim in the second half when he scored and got fouled completing the three-point play [48-46].
- Charlotte established their first lead of the half on a 10-3 run [51-56].
- Charlotte made nine straight field goals to extend the lead to seven points with 8:00 to play in the game [55-62].
- Quaran McPherson made two three-point shots in two minutes, putting the Blazers down just five [65-70], 5:47 left.
- UAB went on an 8-0 run with 2:08 left in the game, including another McPherson three. He had 14 points on the afternoon [75-76].
- Tulsa closed out the game making three out of their final four shot attempts.
- Final score: UAB 78, Charlotte 83
- UAB will await its fate to see if the NIT will select the Blazers to participate in post season play.
