BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB men's basketball team continues a three-game road trip Thursday at 7 p.m. when the Blazers travel to Denton, Texas, to face North Texas from The Super Pit.
Fans can catch all the action live on ESPN3 or by tuning in to the flagship station for UAB men's basketball, WZRR-FM Talk 99.5, with David Crane, "The Voice of the Blazers," on the call.
UAB (7-7, 0-1) opens the week riding the offensive output of junior forward Chris Cokley. The Savannah, Ga., native is tops on the team in scoring (12.0 ppg) and second in rebounding (5.4 rpg) while ranking 24th in the NCAA with a .598 field goal percentage.
Senior Dirk Williams stands second on the team with 11.5 points per game and shoots 35.6 percent from three-point range. Williams is also tops on the team with a .871 free throw percentage and has helped UAB rank 18th in the NCAA by shooting 76.7 percent from the charity stripe.
Junior forward William Lee pours in 10.9 points per game to go along with a team-high 6.2 rebounds per game. Lee also ranks 12th in the country with 2.9 blocks per game and has blocked at least one shot in all but one game this season.
North Texas (6-8, 0-2) dropped its third straight game following a 55-48 setback Monday at Old Dominion. The Mean Green have not won since turning in a 71-65 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Dec. 20.
Junior forward Jeremy Combs leads North Texas with 11.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
UAB and North Texas will meet on the hardwood for the fifth time in school history when the two teams battle on Thursday. The all-time series, which began during the 1997-98 season, is tied 2-2 with each team winning both games on its home court. In the most recent meeting, UAB turned in a 78-57 victory over the Mean Green behind 16 points from Cokley and former Blazer Robert Brown.
