Blazers Battle for First Place Saturday at Marshall

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – The UAB men’s basketball team looks to start a new winning streak Saturday at 11 a.m. (CST) when the Blazers face Marshall from the Henderson Center.
The game will be televised live on CBS Sports Network with John Sadak and Chris Walker on the call. Blazer fans can also catch all the action by listening live to David Crane, "The Voice of the Blazers," on the flagship station for UAB men's basketball, WZRR-FM 99.5 Nash Icon.
UAB (17-4, 7-1) saw its 14-game winning streak end Thursday after suffering a 69-62 setback at WKU. William Lee scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but the Hilltoppers shot 48.0 percent from the field and 46.7 percent from three-point range to hold on for the victory.
Lee also finished with two blocked shots and ranks fourth in the NCAA with 3.1. Overall, UAB is second in the country with 6.6 rejections per game.
Sophomore Nick Norton added six assists to mark the sixth time in the last eight games he has registered at least six helpers. As a team, UAB is fifth in the nation with 19.0 assists per game and has seven games with at least 20 assists.
Marshall (11-10, 7-1) won its seventh straight home game following its 82-66 win over Middle Tennessee on Thursday. The Thundering Herd enters play averaging 91.1 points per game during conference play and is winning by 11.6 points per game.
Senior forward James Kelly leads Marshall with 19.4 points and 9.8 rebounds per game.
UAB is 15-6 in the all-time series with Marshall and has won five straight and seven of the last eight. In addition, UAB is 8-2 all-time at Marshall and has not lost at the Henderson Center since 2008.
The Conference USA Men's and Women's Basketball Championships are set to return to Birmingham for the second consecutive year, marking the third time the Blazers will host the event. The men's tournament, as well as the women's semifinals and championship, will be played at Legacy Arena in downtown Birmingham, while the women's first round and quarterfinal action will take place at UAB's Bartow Arena.
