UAB Synchronized Swimming Cruises to Victory at Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The UAB synchronized swimming team opened its season with a first place finish at Florida on Saturday. The Blazers pulled off a clean sweep at the competition to win the high-point trophy with a score of 98.000.
UAB won the four-team event with Florida finishing second, while Michigan and Georgia took third and fourth, respectively.
The Blazers began by winning the team event and then dominated the duet competition as senior Sara Petrov and sophomore Meryl Grandia finished first, while juniors Frances Halloran and Maria Cecilia Garcia took second.
In the trio event, Grandia, Petrov and Halloran garnered first place honors and then Garcia posted the top score in the solo event.
In addition, the Blazers had the top four finishers in the "A" figures competition.
UAB will be back in action Feb. 10 & 11 when it performs in front of its home crowd in the Bell Aquatics Center. On Saturday, Feb. 10, the Blazers will take on Stanford at 2 p.m. and will then host Georgia at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 11.
