Blazers Finish Second Overall At South Collegiate Nationals

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB synchronized swimming team finished second overall at the South Collegiate Nationals in San Antonio, Texas on Sunday. The Blazers finished with a score of 83.00. The University of Incarnate Word won the competition with a score of 103.00.
In the team competition, Maragareta Jakovac, Meryl Grandia, Brittney McCauley, Stephanie Cardwell, Georgia Luch, Jami Schwendau, Michele Rushfeldt and Shaina Boe led the Blazers to a second-place finish with 88.500 points.
Jakovac and Grandia were also able to capture second place in the duet competition with 87.333 points. McCauley and Cardwell took third place with 85.333 in the same event.
Jakovac, Grandia and McCauley went on to capture third place in the trio competition. The trio scored 85.667 points.
Cardwell, Luch and Schwendau took the top three spots in the group C figures competition.
The Blazers return to the pool on March 27-29 for the Collegiate Nationals in San Antonio, Texas.
